Once Again, in St Petersburg

St Petersburg, Russia
October 6 & 7, 2012

Autumn showers subsided, giving way to Amma's shower of grace, as St Petersburg hosted the IAM course on October 6th and 7th.

It was the second course ever to be held in Russia. The first one took place a year ago, also in St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city.

The students, 22 in total, were of diverse backgrounds and ages, from the young to the elderly. Some had known about Amma for quite a while and even met her, while others heard about her only just before the course.

Over the two days, the students not only learnt the technique but also got an insight into how to integrate spiritual principles into daily life for greater inner and outer peace and harmony. The course participants eagerly watched the video about Amma's humanitarian work and Amrita Yoga, fascinated by Amma's all embracing love and universal vision.

At the end of the first day, most of the students stayed on for bhajans, enthusiastically singing in Indian languages and also three bhajans in Russian, "Grace us with your compassion, Lord" and "Krishna Vrindavana".

It so happened that one of the students had her birthday on October 7th, the last day of the course. She said that she was feeling as if Amma herself came to wish her happy birthday and the course was like a birthday present. She also shared that in the IAM technique she found exactly what she had been looking for: a technique to make the mind silent. Another student said, "I think I have found the permanent practice that I have been so long looking for".

After saying the closing prayers, partaking of the sacred fire and receiving prasad at the end of the course, all expressed great appreciation to the ashram resident who came to St Petersburg specifically to teach the course. The sound of the universal mantra "Om Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu" (May all beings, in all the worlds be happy and contended), seemed to continue to resound in the hall, long after the course finished.
